The Negros Occidental-based Philippine softball team, representing the Asia-Pacific region, continued their winning streak at the 2017 Senior League Softball World Series, recently defeating the Southwest region, represented by the Vidalia Girls Softball Little League from Vidalia, Louisiana.
The Philippines won 6-1 at the Connie Mack Field, Lower Sussex, Delaware in the United States.
The Southwest region remains winless, following a 5-3 loss to the Latin America region on their opening day and an 11-1 demolition by the host team, Delaware-District 3.
Neo May Mahinay, Mary Joy Maguad, and Kaith Ezra Jalandoni scored early, giving the Asia-Pacific region a 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Despite the Louisiana team pulling one back at the top of the second inning, the Negrense side responded with a run in the fourth inning by Mea Tubongbanua and two runs in the sixth inning by Josiemers Maguad and Mahinay.
Mahinay currently has scored the most runs for the team, with five runs from 10 at bats. She also boasts a 0.500 batting average and a 0.545 on base percentage.
She has also contributed four RBIs, or runs batted in, which is when a batter creates a place that allows for another player to score a run.
They next face the host team, who are also currently undefeated./WDJ
