Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary for Public Safety Jesus Hinlo, Jr. said he is optimistic over the retention of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
“While the retention of the NIR is in the hands of the president, I am still hopeful,” he said.
Additionally, in a message to Watchmen Daily Journal, the DILG official clarified he has not read the proposed 2018 national budget, which is currently being deliberated in the House of Representatives.
“I am not in the position to know if the NIR will be given a budget for 2018,” he stated.
It was previously reported the cabinet undersecretary claimed NIR has been excluded from the proposed budget.
Hinlo also clarified previous statements regarding the NIR not having any elected officials linked to illegal drugs, noting it was in reference to the initial list made public by President Rodrigo Duterte.
He said he has yet to see any subsequent lists.
It was also earlier confirmed, Hinlo may be transferred to the Land Bank of the Philippines, where he would serve as one of the firm’s top officials. In reference to the possible move, he said, “I will wholeheartedly accept the invitation.”/WDJ
