With the National Police Commission (Napolcom) currently conducting job interviews for individuals who wish to enter Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18), Napolcom Regional Director Joseph Celis expressed his disappointment in the quality of applicants.
“The present generation really has a different concept in leading a life when it comes to discipline,” he said. “They have become dependent on their instructors and their own syllabus – they do not even read substantial books on the revised penal code or any other subjects related to the course in criminology.”
Celis noted this latest batch lacks discipline and are not well studied when it comes to understanding industry terms.
He also said applicants had trouble expressing themselves as they experienced difficulty answering questions.
“Kids are exposed to material things, reward systems, and immediate gratification,” the Napolcom chief explained. “Eventually, it will really affect the Philippine National Police (PNP).”
He also pointed out many applicants said they were entering law enforcement as a “means of living.”
“No, if you want to become a member of the PNP, it is more of a commitment and service,” Celis stated. “If you want to have lots of money and income, they should be opening up a business instead.”
He added, the current generation of police officers lacks the values of integrity, perseverance, commitment, and sacrifice./WDJ
