A suspected thief died after he was shot by a security guard at the old Ceres Bus Terminal in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, Sunday evening.
Police have yet to identify the suspect.
Based on an initial investigation by Police Station 3 (PS3), the security guard, identified as 28-year-old Rhomel Santero, was conducting a patrol around the property when he spotted four unidentified men trying to steal a battery from one of the parked buses, valued at P7,000.
The thieves, however, spotted Santero and pointed an unknown caliber of firearm at him. The guard managed to draw his 9mm pistol and opened fire at the suspects, prompting them to flee.
Santero contacted police, as well as Amity Emergency Services to treat the intruder, though the suspect later succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to his buttocks, leg, and hip while receiving treatment from paramedics.
PS3 personnel took Santero into custody and confiscated his firearm following the incident. Police are continuing to investigate the identities of the other thieves./WDJ
