According to Maasin police chief, Senior Inspector Rey Cordero, Mayor Jose De Paula of Janiuay, Iloilo faces attempted homicide and illegal firearms charges following a shooting incident that occurred over the weekend.
The mayor hosted a party at a Maasin resort, following a win by his town’s basketball team.
Upon arrival, another group was also present. However, after De Paula was not welcome to join their event, along with not being recognized as a mayor, he boarded his pick-up truck where he retrieved a gun and fired a shot.
The bullet hit Donald Robles, prompting barangay tanods to stop the mayor’s vehicle and attempt to confiscate his gun.
After surrendering his firearm, De Paula was mobbed by Robles’ group.
Police officers would later arrest the mayor and transport him to a hospital for treatment./WDJ
