The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) passed a resolution earlier this week asking transportation groups and their supporters to defer their strike in order for students to attend their first days of classes on June 5 and 6.
Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan, the author of the resolution, said the timing of the transport strike impacts the rights of city students to attaining an education.
He said, while members of the SP respect and support the stance taken by transport operators and drivers, the groups must also value the rights of students.
Earlier, United Negros Drivers and Operators Center (UNDOC) Secretary-General Diego Malacad said they are joining the nationwide protest against the phase out of all public utility vehicles older than 15 years old, as part of a modernization plan./WDJ
