Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) acting director, Police Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, said they are fully prepared for the possible arrival of individuals evacuating Marawi City and indicated they are welcome to temporarily relocate in the city.
He said, if evacuees arrive, they will be required to coordinate with the city government and go through a screening process.
“We have to check these persons, so we can be sure that they are not members of any terrorist organizations,” said Wanky.
Earlier, PRO-18 spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, assured every precaution is being taken on those seeking refuge in the Negros Island Region (NIR), saying they will begin conducting facial recognition of all individuals entering from Mindanao.
Reports also claimed Maute fighters are fleeing Marawi City and are mixing with evacuees./WDJ
