The remains of Army Corporal Meljun Cajaban recently returned home to his loved ones in Bacolod City, after he was slain during a firefight with members of the Abu Sayyaf terror group in Inabanga, Bohol, earlier this month.
In a radio interview with Bombo Radyo-Bacolod, Cajaban’s widow Janet Espinosa said the family is planning to bury him on Saturday, after arriving from the town of Leon in Iloilo province, her husband’s birthplace.
She said the last time they spoke was the night before the April 10 encounter, where Cajaban said he wanted to file for vacation leave in order to attend the birthday and baptism of their two kids.
Based on an autopsy report released by the Philippine Army, Cajaban was killed after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head.
Cajaban was a member of the 47th Infantry Battalion, based in Bohol island./WDJ
