After Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon claimed at least 13 senators are opposed to the restoration of the death penalty, diocese social communications head and San Sebastian Cathedral Rector Rev. Fr. Felix Pasquin said the church is praying the bill does not pass the Senate.
In a text message, he said senators should be “guided by Christian conscience.”
Pasquin also reiterated his call for lawmakers to reform the criminal justice system.
Earlier Wednesday, Drilon claimed the bill is “dead.”
So far, Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, and Senators Manny Pacquiao, Panfilo Lacson, and Sherwin Gatchalian have declared their support for the bill, while Senator Grace Poe, who earlier stated she would study the proposal, announced her opposition to the bill./WDJ
