Travel agents and members of the media from Taiwan are currently in the region on a familiarization tour of Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. The 22-member contingent was invited by the Tourism Promotions Board, Department of Tourism-Region VI (DOT-6), and the Philippine DOT-Taiwan.
According to DOT-6 Director, Atty. Helen Catalbas, Taiwan has the third-highest tourist volume in the region, behind South Korea and China.
“Since 2010, Taiwan has been one of Western Visayas’ leading sources of foreign tourists,” she said. “This trip by Taiwan travel agents and media is part of DOT’s effort in strengthening the relationship between Taiwan and Philippines.”
Among the tour stops included a heritage tour and ocular inspection of accommodation facilities in Iloilo City and its province, a visit to Guimaras’ islands and demonstrations on making mango-based products, the Panaad sa Negros Festival, and the Bacolod-Talisay-Silay heritage tour.
The visitors also took part in a Business-to-Business (B2B) Networking Session with DOT-6 tour operators.
The group will be in the region until tomorrow, April 27./WDJ
