The Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement-Negros (PRRM-Negros), in collaboration with Johanniter International, a German humanitarian agency, recently conducted a participatory disaster risk appraisal (PDRA) in Barangay Chambery, Manapla, in order to generate data surrounding vulnerabilities the area may have to hazards.
According to PRRM-Negros Project Manager Edwin Balajadia, “This marked the first ever community-driven disaster risk assessment in the province in a long time.”
With the area considered home to many fisherfolk, Chambery Seaside Fisherfolks Association (CSFA) President Analina De Asis called the exercise “meaningful.”
“We were able to know the situation of our community, particularly in terms of its issues, hazards, and problems, and the need to resolve them,” she explained.
Meanwhile, Chambery Mangrove Reforestation Association (CHAMRA) President Sonia Detchilla said their group is confident in their capacity to respond to challenges, thanks to PRRM and the PDRA./WDJ
