I’ll fly with you again, United Airlines

“It’s the old adage, you can make a pizza so cheap, nobody will eat it; you can make an airline so cheap, nobody will fly it.” –Gordon Bethune

I will not hesitate to fly United Airlines.
One of the first airlines I learned to enjoy was United, where my kumpareChito Ilonggo Macatual works.
The other option is American Airlines, which, back on Christmas 2012, awarded me a last minute seat on a San Francisco-Honolulu-Guam-Manila flight. All seats had been occupied, considering it was peak season, and nobody was offloaded – Thank God.
In Spring 2008, Macatual booked me on a round-trip business class flight from Los Angeles to Chicago on United – I had to wear “business attire” for the accommodation. On board, fruit, cakes, and expensive wine were served, alongside a spacious seat and special treatment.
I could not choose my flight the day I arrived and was on the waitlist with a bunch of other passengers with the same booking. After “missing” the flights, I was on board just after noon.

Seat
There was no favoritism, nobody was bumped from the flight, no quarreling with ground staff or passengers, no overloading, and there was no need for uniformed personnel to drag out passengers who refused to give up their seat.
The airline crew was courteous and were professional.
However, my pleasant experience with United happened before April 16, 2010 – when United resumed merger talks with Continental Airlines.

Support
It’s why I don’t support the idea of boycotting an airline because of one incident; in particular, earlier this month when security officers dragged a man off a United Airlines plane in Chicago when he refused to give up his seat
The ugly fracas involving 69-year-old David Dao shouldn’t be used as a single barometer to sully United Airline’s outstanding reputation in the airline industry.
Now that the matter is being investigated, and all darts have been thrown at the embattled airline company, let the chips fall where they may./WDJ
