Negros Occidental Board Member Alain Gatuslao is reportedly being considered to run for the 5th congressional district in 2019, which will be vacated by incumbent Rep. Alejandro Mirasol who is on his final term.
According to the board member, he is “still in the consultation phase.”
Also said to be in consideration are Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña and former Board Member Emilio Yulo III, who lost three times to Mirasol.
Analysts believe Yulo would give way to Peña if he pursues the seat, following the latter’s support in his race in 2016. Meanwhile, it is said Gatuslao would have the support of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., along with the Gatuslao and Bascon families, who hold a dynastic rule over Himamaylan City.
As a board member, Gatuslao chairs the Committee on Laws./WDJ
