A blaze hit the Bravo Company detachment of the 62nd Infantry Battalion, yesterday morning, in Barangay Carabalan, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.
According to Fire Officer 1 (FO1) John Derrick Villaruz, arson investigator for the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the city, a short circuit occurred in one of the camp’s bunkers.
The fire quickly spread to the other structures inside the camp and army personnel immediately contacted the BFP for assistance.
Firefighters were also cautious in extinguishing the fire, after learning some of the structures housed several firearms and ammunition.
Once the fire was extinguished, Villaruz determined 33 of the 40 bunkers in the detachment were destroyed with damages estimated at P350,000./WDJ
