Government agencies in Negros Occidental are finalizing preparations for Holy Week, which begins on Palm Sunday, April 9.
According to Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18) spokesperson, Police Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, the entire region will be on full alert beginning on Sunday. Law enforcement will be conducting maximum deployment at pilgrimage sites, churches, and resorts, and will be establishing police assistance desks at the said locations as well.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will also be conducting inspections of all public utility vehicles (PUVs) operating in the province, in order to ensure they are safe and well-conditioned for trips.
Meanwhile, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head Zaephard Caelian said, despite the official declaration of the summer season yesterday, the province will continue to experience cold weather conditions due to the tail end of a cold front affecting the Visayas.
Caelian also reminded beach and resort goers not to leave their children unattended and to make sure there is an available lifeguard when swimming.
He added those planning to take hikes during Holy Week should hire guides who are familiar of the mountain trail./WDJ
