Following the implementation of city ordinances requiring motorcyclists wear helmets, regulating parking areas and jeepney routes, and combating jaywalking, the city government of Bacolod has collected around P229,900 from fines.
Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, said, after two days of implementation, the City Treasurer’s Office has collected P51,800 from jaywalking violations, while another P178,100 came after 10 days of implementing the helmet ordinance.
BTAO began implementing the “No helmet, No travel” policy on March 27, where 1,132 have been apprehended.
The anti-jaywalking policy, beginning on April 3, has seen 518 apprehended for violations.
Acebuche hopes the number of daily apprehension will reduce as they continue to strictly implement the ordinances.
He added nobody is exempt, and even the law enforcement officers would be apprehended if they are caught not wearing a helmet./WDJ
