A mother and her son were wounded after being shot three times by a neighbor at Purok BM, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, yesterday morning.
Police identified the victims as 48-year-old Ronela Calencia and her son, 21-year-old Ranwil Calencia, both residents of the said barangay.
Police Station 6 (PS6) commander, Police Chief Inspector Jovil Sedel, said the two were shot by 53-year-old Alex Javier.
Based on eyewitness accounts, another neighbor, Rachelle Tilibrico was sweeping the pathway around 7:00 a.m. when a verbal argument ensued between her and Javier’s wife.
After Tilibrico slapped away Javier’s mobile phone, she was allegedly punched by the suspect. Tilibrico’s husband intervened, wherein he was challenged to a fistfight by the suspect.
The Tilibricos retreated to their residence, while the suspect’s wife and children demanded Javier to shoot the Tilibricos with his .38 caliber firearm.
Unable to reach Rachelle, Javier shot the elder Calencia twice, who was standing at the door of her home. Her son came to her defense and was subsequently shot as well.
Javier later fled the scene.
Both mother and son were rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center (BAMC) for medical treatment.
Sedel, meanwhile, said they determined the cause of the commotion was due to Javier allegedly closing the pathway and canal, which caused flooding during heavy rainshowers.
He added a manhunt is underway for Javier./WDJ
