In order to address impending water shortages, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Region VI (DENR-6) is pushing for local government units (LGUs) in the Western Visayas to practice rainwater harvesting.
“LGUs must sponsor a resolution for full implementation,” said DENR-6 Director Jim Sampulna.
He noted LGUs in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces must take cues from the legislative initiative passed in Davao City.
“Commercial establishments there are not issued permits if it lacks rainwater catchment facilities,” Sampulna added.
The call also coincides with World Water Day, which was observed yesterday./WDJ
