Negros Occidental awards over P600K to Palarong NIR medalists

Over P600,000 were awarded by the provincial government of Negros Occidental to medalists from the Palarong NIR, held earlier this year in Dumaguete City. After Negros Occidental athletes took home a total 229 medals from the Palarong NIR, held earlier this year in Dumaguete City, the province recently awarded all the winners with cash during a ceremony at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center, distributing a total P667,400.
According to Department of Education-Negros Occidental Provincial Sports head Romeo Sison, gold medalists received P1,500, silver medalists were given P1,200, while bronze medalists were provided with P1,000.
“Even for the team events, each member-player received the same amount as individual medalists,” he said.
Meanwhile, Provincial Sports head Nonong Verdeflor, who represented Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., said the governor will “extend whatever the province has to help develop sports.”/WDJ
