In response to the thousands of Kalipunan Ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) members occupying government housing projects in Bulacan, Rep. Alfredo Benitez is calling for a probe into the situation, saying it is an opportunity to look into the status of resettlement programs.
Currently, six housing projects have been occupied throughout Bulacan, with the most recent witnessing an estimated 500 take over 400 units in Barangay Mapulang Lupa, Pandi.
The Negrense congressman believes, with a government probe, they will be able to identify any gaps in current policy and work towards improving the current situation.
According to a report by GMA News, citing statistics from the National Housing Authority (NHA), there are about 584,426 informal settlers throughout Metro Manila, with over 100,000 living in “danger zones.”
It is believed the Kadamay members conducted the occupation under the impression they were being ignored by NHA./WDJ
