Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, announced at a press conference at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) earlier this week they would begin slapping fines on individuals who jaywalk.
He said jaywalking contributes more congestion to an already problematic traffic situation.
Beginning March 27, first offenders will be assessed a P100 on-the-spot fine, which, if unable to pay, they will be brought to the BTAO office and are subject to perform community service. A second offense would be P200 or community service for the offender, and a third offense would be P300 or community service.
Acebuche noted an anti-jaywalking unit will be formed and will focus along Lacson and Araneta streets./WDJ
