The Philippine Air Force (PAF) announced, last Wednesday, they would be conducting overflights of their brand new fighter aircraft in parts of Visayas, including Negros Occidental.
According to PAF spokesperson, Colonel Antonio Francisco, the overflight of the South Korean built FA-50PH “Fighting Eagle” aircraft will be conducted in the areas of San Carlos City and Bacolod City over the next few days.
During the overflights, people may hear or feel a loud explosion in the air, known as a sonic boom.
People should not be alarmed by the sound as sonic booms are created by aircraft when they enter supersonic speeds, signifying the breaking of the sound barrier.
“Overflight missions will also serve as a great avenue to train pilots and allow them to be acquainted with various aspects of flight missions such as the country’s different terrains, weather and possible areas of interests,” Francisco added.
Besides Negros Occidental, the FA-50PHs will also be flown over the cities of Cebu, Iloilo, Kalibo, and Roxas.
PAF currently maintains six active FA-50PHs, with another six entering service this year./WDJ
