An 11-year-old child reportedly drowned at a beach in the town of Valladolid, Negros Occidental, Thursday afternoon.
Police have refused to reveal the identity of the victim following a request from his parents, but confirmed he is a resident of the said town.
According to Valladolid town police chief, Police Senior Inspector Junji Liba, the victim, along with his friends, went for a swim around 12 noon.
While they were swimming, the victim jumped into the water and disappeared.
His friends later called for help and, a few hours later, recovered the victim’s remains and brought him to the town’s district hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Liba also reminded parents to monitor their kids in order to avoid similar incidents./WDJ
