Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Director Colonel Eugene Rebadomia has warned the public against making prank calls in light of the hoax bomb threat at a public school reported through 911.

Rebadomia said appropriate charges will be filed once they identify the person responsible for the prank call who reported the incident on Tuesday, July 21.

He said that making a false report or engaging in fraudulent activities may result in criminal and civil liabilities under applicable laws.

Rebadomia said the caller’s number had been recorded and would be traced to identify the individual responsible.

“The 911 hotline is intended for the quick response to crimes and emergencies. Please avoid making prank calls or misusing the 911 hotline. Prank calls can escalate quickly, create unnecessary fear, and disrupt the peace and order of the city,” he said.

Prank calls are punishable under Presidential Decree No. 1727.

Those found guilty may face imprisonment of up to five years or a fine of up to P40,000, at the discretion of the court.

Earlier this week, an alleged bomb threat was reported at Mariano G. Medalla Integrated School in Barangay Pahanocoy.

Personnel from BCPO Police Station 8 and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Unit immediately responded to secure the campus and coordinate with school administrators.

Authorities confirmed that no explosive device or hazardous material was found.

The campus has since been declared safe.

The BCPO also urged the public to remain calm and vigilant and to avoid spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary alarm in the community./MAP, WDJ
