George King came to the rescue as San Miguel Beer escaped Terrafirma Dyip, 109-104, for its second straight win in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Saturday, July 18, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

King erupted for 37 points, 14 rebounds and three steals for the Beermen, who nearly squandered a 22-point lead after a second-half rally by the Dyip led by Juami Tiongson.

“It could have easily been Terrafirma’s win, but we were fortunate,” said King, who scored four crucial points to erase a three-point deficit in the final minute and preserve the victory.

CJ Perez added 22 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Don Trollano chipped in 17 points. Both also knocked down key free throws to seal the win.

Tiongson, meanwhile, finished with 27 points, seven assists and six rebounds, including a go-ahead three-pointer that briefly gave the Dyip a 104-101 lead before King took over.

Justin Strings had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Terrafirma, which absorbed its third straight loss in four matches. (ABS-CBN News)
