The Canberra Buglas Region (CBR) Girls squad captured two championship titles at the 6th One La Salle – Stingers Soccer Championship at the Ayala North Point Open Grounds on June 27.

CBR clinched the Girls Born 2009 crown after edging Pamplona de Pontevedra, 3-2, in an aggregate penalty shootout.

Renee Lomugdang, who was later named Best Defender, converted the decisive kick, while Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper Jhayne Dalogdog delivered a crucial save on Pamplona’s second penalty attempt to help seal the victory.

The team added another gold medal in the Girls Born 2012 division, defeating Cebu United FC, 6-5, on aggregate penalties.

Emjay Samson, who earned both the tournament MVP and Best Goalkeeper awards, stopped Cebu United’s final penalty to secure the championship.

The twin victories marked CBR’s eighth gold medal of the year.

The squad competed in partnership with Carabell – Guihulngan Football Club, 6108 United Football Club of Himamaylan, Dolphins FC Negros Occidental, Club de los Hermanos de Futbol of Escalante, and Ilog Football Club.

During the tournament, former Bacolod Mayor and Congressman Monico Puentevella welcomed the growing participation in football.

“The numbers of players, supporters and teams have increased … also brought by the 2026 FIFA World Cup USA-Canada-Mexico,” Puentevella said during the event./ASC, WDJ
