Around 100 golfers took part in the 25th edition of the Rotary Club of Bacolod – Marapara’s Golf for a Cause tournament at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club over the weekend.

The annual event served as the club’s biggest fundraising activity, with proceeds earmarked for various community service projects.

Tournament chairman and past club President Mike Bantug welcomed the strong turnout and support from participants and sponsors.

“This year’s tournament was outstanding, with excellent golf and the unwavering generosity of our sponsors and players,” Bantug said.

“This is our major fundraiser of the year, with proceeds enabling us to carry out a wide range of community outreach programs.”

Joemarie Limjap emerged as the Best Net champion after posting 84 points while playing off a 24 handicap, while Nicolo Torre captured the Best Gross title with 66 points on an 11 handicap.

The event also staged the annual Rotary interclub tournament, where the newly chartered Rotary Club of Murcia – Tinabuay claimed the team championship.

An awards banquet capped the tournament, recognizing the winners and featuring a raffle for players and guests.

Funds generated from the charity tournament will help finance the Rotary Club of Bacolod – Marapara’s year-round outreach initiatives, including medical missions, feeding programs, coastal and mangrove rehabilitation efforts, school supply distribution, computer literacy projects, and ecotourism support.

Now on its 25th year, the Golf for a Cause tournament continues to bring together golfers and Rotary members in support of community development projects across Negros Occidental./ASC, WDJ
