The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod has approved a resolution for the establishment of a police station in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
“Despite its size, population and strategic importance, Barangay Singcang-Airport does not presently host a police station facility within its territorial jurisdiction,” Councilor Caesar Distrito said in a resolution.
The village is one of the largest, most populous and fastest-growing barangay in the city, serving as a major residential, commercial, institutional, and transportation hub in the southern part of Bacolod.
Distrito said it also hosts numerous subdivisions and commercial establishments, all of which require a strong and visible police presence.
Singcang-Airport continues to experience rapid urbanization and economic growth, the resolution said.
Police Station 8, which exercises jurisdiction over Barangay Singcang-Airport and neighboring areas, is currently situated several kilometers away from Barangay Pahanocoy.
“The establishment of a police station within Barangay Singcang-Airport would significantly improve police visibility, enhance crime prevention efforts, strengthen community policing initiatives, reduce emergency response time, improve public confidence in law enforcement, and provide better protection to residents,” he added.
Distrito emphasized that a police station strategically located in Barangay Singcang-Airport would likewise serve nearby communities and major economic corridors in the southern district of Bacolod.
Authorities have earlier identified and allocated a parcel of land suitable for the establishment and construction of a police station, strategically located adjacent to the soon-to-be developed airport complex.
The councilor said the availability of a suitable site presents a valuable opportunity for police and concerned government agencies to establish a permanent police station./MAP, WDJ
