Still basking in his second PBA title, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings star Troy Rosario has put the celebrations on hold for another tour of duty with Gilas Pilipinas.

After more than four years, the 6-foot-7 veteran will be donning the national colors once again, as Rosario will be among the 12 players who will battle New Zealand and Australia in the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in early July.

But even with the short turnaround between his Ginebra and Gilas duties, the second overall pick in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft sees no problem with it.

“To be called up sa Final 12, isang malaking karangalan kasi nagbunga ‘yung mga paghihirap na ginawa ko,” said Rosario during Gilas’ send-off press conference at the FilOil Centre in San Juan.

The last time Rosario suited up for Gilas in a FIBA tournament was during the 2023 World Cup Asian Qualifiers in 2022, when he averaged two points, four rebounds and one assist across two games.

Rosario then returned to the national pool in early 2025, but this will be the first time he has earned a spot in the Final 12.

As the blessings continued for the newly minted two-time PBA champion, Rosario vowed to repay the trust of head coach Tim Cone and the rest of their coaching staff.

“I was a part of Gilas, two windows na practice player. Hopefully, donning the Gilas jersey, makakuha kami ng panalo ngayon,” said Rosario, who also had a stint with Gilas during the pandemic-delayed Southeast Asian Games in 2022.

As for his championship celebration with his fellow Kabarangays, it will have to wait, at least for now.

“Medyo nag-e-enjoy pa ako sa championship, pero may call eh. Kailangan kong i-pause muna ‘yung celebration at mag-focus sa preparation,” said Rosario.

The nationals will face New Zealand on July 3 before battling Australia on July 6, with both matches set to be played away from home.
