Bacolod City Legal Officer Karol Joseph Chiu urged all vendors at the Central Market to have their garbage receptacles and always practice proper waste disposal.

The call came after some vendors were caught leaving their garbage outside the market along Bonifacio Street.

“Those who fail to comply with the local ordinance may have their special permits revoked,” Chiu said.

He added that this should serve as a warning to vendors to maintain cleanliness in the market and help protect public health and safety.

Chiu said he had already called the attention of the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) to address the problem in the area.

In response, BENRO officer-in-charge Allyn Luv Dignadice will be holding a meeting with the market vendors today, June 24.

Under the local ordinance, vendors are allowed to display their products along Bonifacio Street, provided that they maintain garbage receptacles to help keep the market clean.

Chiu noted that the garbage left in the area has also clogged the drainage system.

He said they have already coordinated with City Administrator Mark Steven Mayo to verify the official list of vendors operating at the Central Market./MAP, WDJ
