Gilas Pilipinas dropped its first two games in the FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Cup at Parade Square in Warsaw, Poland.
Gilas Women fell to Latvia, 11-14, to open their campaign in Pool C of the tournament.
The duo of Kacey dela Rosa and Mikka Cacho took charge for Gilas early in the game, giving the Philippines the 5-2 edge over Latvia.
The No. 15 seed came alive with a 12-1 run to take the lead, before Gilas responded with a rally of their own to cut the deficit to a single digit, 13-10.
But time was not on the side of the Philippines, as Latvia came away with the win.
Dela Rosa led the way with five points and three rebounds, while Cacho had three markers and three boards.
In their second assignment, Gilas Women were outplayed by Germany, 10-22.
The No. 6 seed proved too strong for the Philippines, with the deficit growing to as much as nine points.
Germany never looked back, denying Gilas Women any chance at a comeback.
Dela Rosa and Cacho were the bright spots for the Philippines, combining for eight points in the loss.
Gilas Women aims to bounce back on Wednesday, June 3, when they face China and Italy.
After the first day of pool play, the Philippines is at the bottom of Pool C with two losses.
Only the top two teams per pool will automatically qualify for the semifinals, while the third place squads can earn a ticket through play-in games.
Last April, Gilas Women booked a ticket to the FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Cup after beating Singapore in the qualifiers. (ABS-CBN News)
