A grieving husband is calling for justice after his wife was found dead in a remote area in Negros Occidental’s Cadiz City on Thursday afternoon, May 21, with indications that she may have been assaulted before being killed.
Jenny Ann Delano was discovered lifeless in Barangay Sicaba’s Sitio Capayas at around 4:00 p.m., her husband Berwin recounted the incident in a radio interview.
Berwin said he accompanied his wife to a waiting shed located about 200 meters from their home as she was supposed to travel to Barangay Burgos to claim a loan from a cooperative.
He temporarily left her at the waiting shed while he arranged for a motorcycle they intended to use.
When he returned about 30 minutes later, his wife was no longer there.
Thinking she may have proceeded to Barangay Burgos, Berwin went there himself but found the cooperative office already closed.
He later returned home and contacted the victim’s sibling to ask if Jenny had arrived there, but she had not.
As evening approached, Berwin and one of their children began searching for her.
The victim was eventually found around 20 kilometers behind the waiting shed area.
Berwin said his wife had injuries to her mouth, her shorts were torn, and a strap from her bag had allegedly been used to tie around her neck.
He also believed she may have been struck with a coconut husk or similar object found at the scene.
Authorities are also investigating a T-shirt recovered near the crime scene, which is believed to belong to the suspect.
Berwin suspects that the assailant may have been someone known to his wife.
Prior to the incident, a witness reportedly saw the victim talking to a man in the waiting shed.
The man was described as wearing a jacket, bonnet and sunglasses.
The couple relied on fishing for their livelihood and has two children, aged 17 and 10.
Police authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation continues./CJ, WDJ
