The Negros Occidental Regional Football Association (NORFA) is set to stage two football festivals this May in Negros Occidental, bringing together former varsity players, local clubs and football enthusiasts for back-to-back competitions.
Leading the schedule is the inaugural Jose Edgardo “Baby” Gonzaga Memorial Football Festival from May 16 to 17 at the Christopher Estate Football Field.
Organized by the WNC / STI-WNU Football Varsity Alumni Association, the tournament will be played under an 8-versus-8 format and serves as a tribute to the late football figure Jose Edgardo Gonzaga.
A week later, the spotlight shifts to Escalante City for the 28th Manlambus Festival – Mayor Beboy Yap Jr. Cup from May 23 to 24 at the Escalante Football Field.
The event is part of the city’s annual festival celebration and will feature an eight-aside football competition.
NORFA reminded all participating teams and players that both tournaments are officially sanctioned by the regional football body.
Organizers also emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, discipline and professionalism throughout the competitions, warning that any violations involving team conduct or festival operations could result in sanctions.
The twin football festivals are expected to draw strong participation from football communities across Negros Occidental./ASC, WDJ
