The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings fired on all cylinders to torch the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 114-90, in their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup clash on Sunday, May 3, at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Justin Brownlee erupted for 40 points on six three-pointers for the Gin Kings, marking their eighth victory in 11 games and taking the current solo second seed with only one game left in their assignments.

“We were all feeling terrible against [the Meralco Bolts],” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone, whose squad recovered from their 91-112 loss.

“But we weren’t discouraged because we knew that it was not us.”

Also starring was Ralph Cu, who caught fire with 15 points on five three-pointers, on top of five rebounds and three assists for Ginebra, which broke away in the third period after making nine of their total 21 three-pointers in that span.

RJ Abarrientos finished with 23 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, and two steals; Scottie Thompson notched 17 markers, 16 boards, four dimes, and three steals; while Troy Rosario had 13 points with seven rebounds for Ginebra, which will conclude the elimination round on May 10 against the TNT Tropang 5G.

On the other hand, the Painters have now lost three of their last four matches after starting the conference with seven straight wins.

Jaylen Johnson led the struggling Rain or Shine with 16 points, 10 rebounds and six assists, but with five turnovers, and this did not help their cause as they fell by as much as 26 in the loss.

Gian Mamuyac added 14, Anton Asistio followed with 13, Adrian Nocum finished with 10, while Santi Santillan, Caelan Tiongson, and Deo Cuajao each scored eight for the Painters, who will close the eliminations against the Converge FiberXers on Saturday, May 9. (ABS-CBN News)
