Bacolod Tay Tung High School surged into the quarterfinals of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 1 after completing a flawless campaign in Pool B at the La Salle Green Hills Gym on Monday, April 27.
The reigning runner-up imposed its dominance against Immaculada Conception College, 25-14, 25-13, behind a 14-point outing from Rhose Almendralejo to seal a 4-0 record heading into the knockout stage.
Joining Bacolod Tay Tung among the unbeaten teams is defending champion National University Nazareth School (NUNS), which swept Pool A following a commanding 25-12, 25-12 win over Bethel Academy.
Raine Alonzo paced the Lady Bullpups with eight attack points.
“Masaya po na nakapasok kami sa quarterfinals na walang talo. Lahat po pinaghirapan namin may kinalabasan,” Alonzo said.
Bella Cruz contributed six points, while Jhayna Bulandres and Diza Berayo chipped in five each as NUNS arranged a quarterfinal matchup with St. John’s Institute.
Far Eastern University – Diliman also turned in a spotless showing in Pool C, capping a 4-0 slate with a 25-16, 25-18 triumph over San Felipe Neri Catholic School.
The Baby Lady Tamaraws will face Immaculada Conception College in the Last 8.
Elsewhere, University of Santo Tomas completed a sweep of Pool D, overcoming Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-18, 20-25, 15-9, to secure a quarterfinal pairing with King’s Montessori.
King’s Montessori clinched the last quarterfinal berth in Pool A after eliminating California Academy, 25-17, 25-21, behind 11 points from Sharina Lleses.
De La Salle-Lipa ended its Pool C stint with a 2-2 record following a 25-16, 25-23 victory over University of the Philippines Integrated School./ASC, WDJ
