The Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts completed a dominant run to the National Grassroots Volleyball League Regional finals after sweeping Casiano Gerona National High School, 25-21, 25-14, 25-18, at The Hangar in Bacolod City.
The Thunderbolts displayed composure in a tight opening set before asserting control the rest of the way, closing out the straight-sets victory to secure the regional title.
After edging Casiano Gerona in the first set, Bacolod Tay Tung found its rhythm behind strong net defense and efficient offense.
The Thunderbolts pulled away comfortably in the second and third sets to seal the championship in convincing fashion.
Bacolod Tay Tung’s stellar campaign was highlighted by multiple individual honors, with Samantha Cañete being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after playing a key role throughout their championship run.
Marishka Alexandria Andrada earned Best Setter recognition for orchestrating the Thunderbolts’ offense.
Nicole Getino was named Best Middle Blocker and Luchi Vivero as Best Libero for her consistent floor coverage.
Also part of the team are Czarina Ang, Ariane Alayon, Annicka Chua, Mary Regine Wong Yan, Mari Cacho, Memielle Letran, Rheatysia Lim, Jessica Soco, Zelver Banguiao, Mari Cacho, Xadrej Espanola, Alexa Abucion, and Rayne dela Cruz.
Bacolod Tay Tung’s title run was guided by head coach Ian Macariola, with assistance from coaches Gersan Banzuela and Sheryl Laborte.
