The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has mobilized around 1,000 personnel to ensure a safe, peaceful and orderly observance of Holy Week from March 29 to April 5.
In a statement, PRO-NIR director Police Brigadier General Arnold Thomas Ibay emphasized that the heightened police presence is not only aimed at preventing crime but also at supporting the spiritual significance of the Lenten season.
“As we enter this sacred season of reflection and faith, our police presence goes beyond the prevention of crime,” Ibay said.
Police forces from Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Bacolod City, and Siquijor will be deployed to key areas across the region.
These include churches and other places of worship, major roads, transportation terminals, commercial establishments, and other convergence zones where large crowds are expected.
Authorities said the move aims to boost police visibility, strengthen public safety measures, and ensure quick response to any untoward incidents, especially as thousands of devotees are anticipated to travel and participate in religious activities during the Lenten period.
The PRO-NIR reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order, noting that Holy Week remains one of the most widely observed religious events in the country.
“We are here not only as protectors, but as partners in preserving the solemnity and meaning of this holy occasion,” Ibay added./CJ, WDJ
