Kanlaon Volcano spewed ash on Monday afternoon, March 23, that rose 100 meters above its summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
State volcanologists shared time-lapse footage of the ash emission from Kanlaon on Negros Island, which was recorded at 2:51 p.m.
The ash emission began at 2:40 p.m. and generated grayish plumes that rose 100 meters above the summit crater.
The ash plumes then drifted southwest, as recorded on camera by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory in Negros Oriental’s Canlaon City.
Alert Level 2 is still in effect over Kanlaon, which had three moderately explosive eruptions this year.
The first two eruptions were logged on February 19 and February 26, respectively.
The third moderately explosive eruption was last March 15.
Over the weekend, Phivolcs observed ash emissions from the volcano on March 20 and 21, as well as five volcanic earthquakes.
Entry into Kanlaon’s four-kilometer permanent danger zone is prohibited under Alert Level 2. (GMA Integrated News)
