Negrense Alexandra Eala absorbed a tough 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Karolína Muchová of Czechia to bow out in the Round of 16 of the 2026 Miami Open in Florida on Monday night, March 23 (Philippine time).
Match statistics underscored the one-sided affair, with the WTA No. 13 ranked Muchová controlling both service and return games from the outset.
The Czech standout posted a 69 percent first serve rate compared to Eala’s 52 percent, and was highly efficient behind it, winning 80 percent of her first-serve points.
Eala, by contrast, managed just 36 percent on first serve.
Muchová also capitalized heavily on second serves, winning 80 percent of those points, while the WTA No. 29 ranked Eala finished at 56 percent.
The disparity was even more evident in return.
Muchová won 24 receiving points, triple Eala’s total of eight, consistently putting pressure on the Filipina’s service games.
That pressure translated into a perfect 5-for-5 conversion on break points, while Eala failed to earn a single break opportunity.
Overall, Muchová doubled Eala in total points won, 52-26, and dominated in games, 12-2.
She also strung together a run of 10 consecutive games at one point, effectively deciding the match early.
Eala showed brief resistance in the second set, managing to get on the scoreboard and win two games, but was unable to sustain momentum against Muchová’s steady baseline control and efficient serving.
Both players finished without an ace, but Eala committed more double faults, 2-1, adding to her difficulties on serve.
“I feel pretty good. [I] get nervous here and there when it’s going. I don’t want to say [it’s] easy, but when the score is in your favor, it’s like you have to be cautious,” Muchová said.
“I’d say it’s kind of everything, like good preparation, good team around me, good people, playing, keeping healthy, as you mentioned, good practices. It’s kind of little pieces of everything, and then when it clicks, I’m happy it clicked,” she added.
The loss highlights the gap Eala faced against a seasoned opponent, with Muchová’s consistency and conversion rate proving decisive throughout the match./ASC, WDJ
