The De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers continued their dominant run in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament after defeating the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday night, March 21.
Negrense Angel Canino spearheaded the Lady Spikers with a double-double of 21 points and 15 excellent receptions as they opened the second round of eliminations with an 8-0 card.
Ilongga Amie Provido added 18 markers, including five blocks, Shevana Laput chipped in 10 markers, while Shane Reterta contributed nine markers and 15 excellent receptions for DLSU.
The Lady Spikers showcased composure in the latter part of the match, overcoming a tough third set before sealing the victory in the fourth to remain unbeaten in the tournament.
On the other hand, Adamson dropped to an even 4-4 slate after failing to sustain its momentum following a strong second-set performance.
Shaina Nitura led them with 23 markers.
Meanwhile, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses recovered from a slow start and turned back the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 21-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-12.
Angeline Poyos led the way with 25 points and 11 excellent receptions, while Regina Jurado added a double-double of 20 points and 21 rebounds as the Golden Tigresses improved to a 5-3 record.
Jonna Perdido contributed 10 points and nine excellent digs, Cassie Carballo finished with 22 excellent sets to go with two attacks, and Bernadett Pepito ended with 13 excellent digs and 10 excellent receptions for UST.
After conceding the opening frame, the Golden Tigresses regrouped and took control of the match the rest of the way, overpowering the Blue Eagles in the next three sets to secure their third straight victory.
Rookie Ana Hermosura finished with 11 points, 12 excellent digs and nine excellent receptions for the Blue Eagles, which dropped to 1-7 to remain near the bottom of the standings./ASC, WDJ
