Himamaylan City emerged as champion in the first-ever cheerdance competition of the Negros Island Region Athletic Association Meet (NIRAAM) after delivering a high-energy and technically polished performance that impressed both judges and spectators.

The competition featured gravity-defying stunts such as splits, backflips, cartwheels, death drops, and aerial tosses, highlighted by synchronized movements and dynamic formations.

Four Schools Division Offices — Himamaylan City, Escalante City, Bacolod City, and Dumaguete City — competed in the historic event, with student-athletes showcasing their skills in dance, gymnastics, and creative costuming.

Before the final results were announced, the crowd was further energized by an on-the-spot dance showdown among the competing teams.

By the end of the contest, Himamaylan secured the championship title, earning the right to represent NIR in the Palarong Pambansa.

Dumaguete City placed first runner-up, followed by Bacolod City as second runner-up, while Escalante City finished third runner-up.

Judges noted that all teams showed strong potential, but Himamaylan stood out for the difficulty of its stunts and the precision of its synchronization.

The victory was a moment of pride for the Himamaylan delegation, particularly for Grade 7 flyer Vielle Maxime Alejado, one of the youngest members of the team, who had been cheerdancing for only eight months.

Despite the challenges during preparation, she and her teammates captured the regional crown.

Full support was also extended by Himamaylan City Mayor Raymund Tongson, who was also present in the competition and lauded the athletes for their dedication and discipline as the team celebrated a milestone win in the inaugural cheer dance event of the NIRAAM./CJ, WDJ
