The Bacolod City government has committed P50 million for the construction of a dedicated FIFA-standard football pitch at the oval of Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS), a move aimed at strengthening grassroots sports and keeping local athletes training and competing within the city.
Mayor Greg Gasataya announced the project during a send-off ceremony for Bacolod’s sports delegates, citing the need for a world-class facility as many young footballers currently travel outside the city for training and matches.
“We know there are a lot of teams in Bacolod and some of them play outside the city. By having this quality turf, it can help our athletes and attract more competitions here,” the mayor said.
The planned 7,490-square-meter facility will feature artificial turf compliant with FIFA standards and professional-grade lighting, making it the first city-built football venue of its kind in Bacolod.
City Engineer Loben Rafael Ceballos said construction is expected to begin in the first or early second week of March, subject to the issuance of the notice to proceed.
“The exact timeline depends on its release,” he noted./CJ, WDJ
