The Akari Power Chargers snapped their skid in the PVL All-Filipino Conference with a 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22 victory over sister team Nxled Chameleons at the Playtime FilOil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday night, February 24.
Negrense Christine Joy Soyud made her contribution with 13 markers as the Power Chargers finally secured their first win of the conference after losing their previous three matches.
The Power Chargers came out strong in the opening set and maintained their composure in the tight second frame to take a commanding two-set lead over the struggling Chameleons.
Although Nxled extended the match by claiming the third set, the Power Chargers regained control in the fourth, closing out the match behind steady playmaking from Marionne Alba and consistent execution.
The loss marked the second straight defeat for the Chameleons, who dropped to a 3-2 record in the conference.
Meanwhile, the Cignal Super Spikers dealt the PLDT High Speed Hitters their first defeat of the conference with a commanding 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 sweep.
Gel Cayuna showcased her efficient ball distribution with 18 excellent sets, to go with nine points and five excellent digs, to be named Player of the Game as Cignal improved to a 4-1 mark.
Cignal controlled much of the match, displaying consistent offense and solid defense to neutralize PLDT, which entered the contest as the last unbeaten team in the tournament.
Despite a late push from the High Speed Hitters in the third set, the Super Spikers maintained their composure and closed out the match in straight sets to secure the victory.
The loss dropped PLDT to 3-1, denying the team an opportunity for an automatic semifinals berth if they have concluded the elimination round undefeated./ASC, WDJ
