The Binalbagan municipal government said it will terminate the contracts of 24 contractual and casual employees who tested positive for illegal drug use.

The drug tests were part of a screening conducted last February 11 on approximately 300 to 400 non-regular employees across various municipal departments.

Officials said employees were informed ahead of time, and precautions were taken to ensure all subjects participated.

“The contracts will end immediately once we notify the employees. We will hold a meeting to clarify the matter, but this is the decision for those who tested positive,” Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda said.

He added that regular and permanent staff have not yet undergone similar screening, as the initial focus is on casual and contractual personnel.

Aranda underscored the municipality’s commitment to a drug-free workplace, reminding all employees of the consequences of substance abuse.

“This should serve as a warning — if this is the result, you lose your chance. Instead of continuing down this path, focus on improving yourself,” he said./CJ, WDJ
