The Bacolod City government, in partnership with the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), has extended financial support to 117 families who lost their homes in a series of fires that swept through the city in January 2026.

The distribution took place at the Bacolod City College Gymnasium in Barangay Taculing yesterday.

A total of P1.255 million was allocated to assist families in rebuilding their lives.

Mayor Greg Gasataya said families whose houses were completely destroyed received P15,000, those with partially damaged homes received P10,000, and renters or sharers received P5,000 each.

“We have funds set aside for situations like this to support affected families. After the incidents, I immediately instructed the DSSD to fast-track the release of assistance,” Gasataya said.

The fires started on January 24, destroying several homes in Barangay 10.

Subsequent incidents affected at least 20 houses in Purok 3 Batad, Sitio Magsungay in Barangay Singcang-Airport, and Purok Masanag, Barangay 26.

According to DSSD records, the affected families include 62 from Barangay 10, 18 from Barangay 26, and 11 from Barangay Singcang Airport.

Additional support went to two families from Barangay Alijis, five from Barangay Bata, and 19 from Barangay Banago.

Gasataya also directed the Bacolod Housing Authority to identify available relocation sites for fire-affected families and residents living in danger zones.

He noted that many families have expressed interest in availing themselves of relocation assistance.

“The safety and recovery of our residents remain a top priority. We will continue to ensure they have access to both financial aid and secure housing,” Gasataya said./CJ, WDJ
