In a dazzling blend of creativity, advocacy and holiday spirit, the Sagay Component City Police Station welcomed the holiday season with an extraordinary illumination ceremony that turned law enforcement into an inspiring community celebration.

Launched on December 1, “A Christmas Illumination: Lights of Peace” showcased a one-of-a-kind 15-foot Christmas tree made entirely from unconventional materials: 250 confiscated modified mufflers and 100 fake driver’s licenses.

What is usually associated with violations and penalties was transformed into a symbol of awareness, responsibility and unity.

The visionary behind this unique centerpiece is Police Lt. Colonel Alvimar Flores, who conceptualized the “Muffler Art” display as a bold reminder of City Ordinance No. 2015-002, regulating modified mufflers in Sagay.

The artwork highlights the city’s continuing efforts to curb noise pollution and maintain peace and order — this time, through a medium that speaks both visually and powerfully.

Sagaynon artist Roy Tolentino painstakingly crafted the display, turning seized items into art that now serves a higher purpose: educating the public while spreading Christmas cheer.

During the ceremony, supervising tourism officer Helen Cutillar lauded the initiative, saying the Sagay police had successfully used “creativity to inspire and educate,” adding that projects like this elevate community engagement during the holidays.

Sagay Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva echoed the praise, expressing gratitude to the city’s police force for their proactive approach to public safety.

“Peace and order is the foundation for all development,” he emphasized, noting that initiatives like this strengthen the relationship between authorities and residents.

The evening culminated in the much-anticipated “lights on” moment, where the tree burst into a warm glow — symbolizing hope, unity and the Philippine National Police’s dedication to fostering a safer, more harmonious Sagay.

Beyond the grand display, various offices inside the police station have also been meticulously decorated with festive ornaments, welcoming clients and visitors with a renewed sense of holiday cheer.

This year, the Sagay police proved that Christmas is not only about lights — it is about illuminating awareness, strengthening connections and turning even the most unexpected materials into reminders of peace./WDJ
