The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses banked on a fiery start to score a 95-70 rout over the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball finals at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Wednesday, December 10.
Negrense Rachelle Ambos set the tone early with 13 markers as the Growling Tigresses bounced back from their Game 1 loss to tie the best-of-three championship series at 1-1.
Karylle Sierba spearheaded the offense with 17 points, including three outside conversions.
Bridgette Santos added 15 markers, while Coi Dagangan ended up with 11 markers.
The Growling Tigresses surged to a 20-6 start behind early conversions from Ambos and Dagangan.
The Lady Bulldogs managed to inch closer and trim the deficit to 40-48 at the half.
However, UST heated up from the three-point area in the second half as they surged to a 75-53 advantage in the third quarter before widening it to as high as 31 points in the fourth quarter.
Kristine Cayabyab led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points, while Marga Villanueva chipped in 12 markers.
The winner-take-all Game 3 between the two schools is at the same venue on Sunday, December 14./ASC, WDJ
