The Dasmariñas City Monarchs drew first blood in the MPVA Season 2 semifinals after dominating the Negros ICC Blue Hawks in straight sets, 25-15, 25-15, 25-16, in Game 1 of their best-of-three series at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna on Wednesday, November 26.
The Monarchs controlled the match from start to finish, keeping the Blue Hawks on their heels with strong serves and steady net defense.
Dasmariñas imposed its pace early, building comfortable leads in all three sets and never allowing Negros to mount a serious run.
Kaye Bombita powered the Monarchs’ victory with 11 points built on nine attacks, one block and one ace.
With the win, Dasmariñas moved one win away from securing a finals berth, while Negros faces a must-win Game 2 to keep its championship hopes alive.
Meanwhile, the Biñan Tatak Gel Lady Chiefs upset the Quezon Tangerines, 17-25, 25-21,15-25, 26-24 and 15-13, in Game 1 of their semis series opener.
Laika Tudlasan led Biñan in the win with a production of 17 points, 16 attacks and one ace./ASC, WDJ
