The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings are back on the winning track in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup after pulling away for a 102-93 triumph over the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Sunday night, November 16.
RJ Abarrientos spearheaded the Gin Kings’ 14-2 closing run to overturn a slim 88-91 deficit, on their way to their third win of the conference against four defeats.
The guard finished with 25 points, while Scottie Thompson added 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
Four other Ginebra players finished in double-digits.
A Ken Tuffin bucket had given the Fuel Masters a 91-88 lead with 3:06 to go, but Abarrientos knocked down a three-pointer on the other end to knot the count.
Troy Rosario’s putback gave Ginebra the lead for good, 93-91, with 1:24 to go, and a clutch triple by Stephen Holt with 49.3 seconds left padded Ginebra’s lead to five points, 96-91.
Phoenix could not answer on the other end, with Tyler Tio’s jumper with 15 seconds to go coming too little, too late.
Ginebra is now at 3-4, tied for seventh in the league standings with the Meralco Bolts.
Phoenix, meanwhile, fell to 2-6.
The Fuel Masters are in ninth place, below the cut-off for the quarterfinals.
Ricci Rivero had 28 points in the loss for Phoenix. (ABS-CBN News)
