
Typhoon “Tino” damaged at least 48,290 houses in 16 local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental, data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) showed.
Of the number, 41,435 were listed as partially damaged, while 6,855 were considered destroyed.
The LGUs with reported damaged houses due to flash floods and strong winds include the cities of Sipalay, San Carlos, Bago, Silay, Escalante and La Carlota, as well as the municipalities of Isabela, Toboso, San Enrique, Binalbagan, Pontevedra, Cauayan, Manapla, E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran, and La Castellana.
In central Negros, the hardest-hit is La Carlota City with 10,356 partially damaged houses and 678 destroyed homes.
Next is Hinigaran with 9,326 partially damaged homes and 3,007 others destroyed, followed by Bago City, which reported 8,576 damaged houses and 907 also destroyed.
Toboso reported 2,843 damaged houses as well as 257 destroyed homes; San Enrique, with 2,180 damaged houses and 588 others destroyed; Pontevedra, 1,307 damaged houses and 171 others destroyed; E.B. Magalona, 1,268 damaged houses and 28 others destroyed; Isabela, 1,149 damaged houses and 88 others destroyed; and Silay, 1,114 damaged and 162 others destroyed.
The rest of the affected LGUs reported damaged and destroyed houses numbering below 1,000.
In a statement, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said the declaration of the state of calamity in Negros Occidental will facilitate the release of emergency resources and enable faster delivery of assistance to affected communities.
“The provincial government continues to work closely with LGUs units and national government agencies to restore normalcy and support the rebuilding of affected communities across the province,” he added. (PNA)
